    Newsletter from St Andrews Church

There's always a lot going on at the church on St Andrew Street. This is the March newsletter...

Update on Building Plans and Fundraising for the new St Andrew’s Centre

Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed to the new St Andrew Centre project which has reached around £156,000 towards the church hall refurbishment and replacement church heating. Planning is the key and although it seems frustrating, it is essential that we have a clear vision of all aspects of the project.

    Direct donations

Donations can be made direct by cheque to our Treasurer Sue Mulligan or placed in a yellow envelope in the chest by the entrance at the back of the Church or by Justgiving. Gift Aid is currently at the rate of 28p, but reducing to 25p on 1 April 2011. Our link is: http://www.justgiving.com/hertfordstandrew/donate

    Buildings Team

Michael Cracknell (Quantity Surveyor), Andrew Goodman and Richard Threlfall (both Architects) continue working on the various plans and needs. Nathan Surendran (Environmental Heating Consultant) has recently emigrated to New Zealand, so is advising from a distance.

    Grant ApplicationsTeam

We now have a small team of people identifying grant making bodies to which we can apply. If you know of any trusts or grant making bodies which may be sympathetic, please talk to one of the members; Hilary Barnett, Mick Hartnett, Ruth Hole, Helen Maynard or Charles Ledsam. Next meeting is on 2 March.

    Fundraising Team

The Fundraising Team is Charles Ledsam, Barbara Hurford, Kathy Kennedy, Peter and Hazel Risby, Lesley Self and David Goodwill. New members are welcome. Next meeting is on 10 February.

    A new leaflet

Work continues on preparation of a new leaflet to provide information about the project and how readers can help.

    Forthcoming coffee morning dates

These are usually the first Saturday of the month from 1000 am to 1230 pm.  Please support these coffee mornings, which are good social events and raise useful funds for the St Andrew’s Centre. We welcome help with baking, making, setting up, serving, selling and clearing up afterwards. Please ask you friends and neighbours to come and support this. A pleasing £367 was raised in January.

    Quiz Night on 5 March 2011 1930 for 2000

There is a Quiz on 5 March at Sele School. Colin Harding is our Quizmaster. It is a Fish and Chip Supper with folk bringing their own drink. There will be a large Raffle, organised by Lesley Self and Hazel Risby. Tickets are £0 each. Proceeds will be split 50/50 with Young Life. Tables of eight are needed or contact Barbara Hurford or Peter Risby to join a table.

    Wildlife Photos

On Saturday 18 June Richard Long will be showing amazing wildlife photos and talking about the charity he formed a few years ago in Kenya called “Chalk would be a Miracle” (see separate announcement)

    St Andrew Street Website

If you have not already done so, please look at the St Andrew Street website and support them where you possibly can. The street website is; www.standrewstreet.com/church

    Lincolnshire Cottage

Our quaint cottage on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds is available for use again in 2011. It sleeps 4 or 5.It is 40 miles from Lincoln and half an hour to the coast. There is a pub over the road serving good food! We ask for £25 per day to cover heating and utilities and a donation to the St Andrew’s Centre. Contact Charles or Debbie on 01992 584426 for more details.

    Other fundraising ideas being considered

    A. We are currently considering a “Buy a Brick” plan, where folk are invited to buy a “brick” or other “block” for, say, £50. This could be in celebration of a baptism, wedding or in memory of a loved one.
    B. A visit to the fascinating archive collection of Spear’s games (scrabble, snakes and ladders etc) plus tea. Friday 25 March at 2.30 pm till 5 pm!  Talk by Francis Spear, visit to archive and then tea! Please let us know if you are interested as soon as possible.
    C. A Grand Draw.
    D. We would love to establish a Friends of St Andrew’s Group to keep in touch with those who have moved away from the Parish.

All ideas are appreciated. We do understand how tough the economic climate is expected to be in the next year but one final push is needed so we can turn our talks and dreams into reality. Your prayers and encouragement are much appreciated. Thank you so much for reading this.

If you would like to know more please contact Charles Ledsam (01992 584426) or one of the fundraising team.
